The Cortex A8 is made by Texas Instruments and was first used in the Motorola Droid/Milestone phones. It comes in a few different flavors and speeds but here is the long and short of it:

  • It supports NEON instructions (fast floating point processing)
  • Clock for clock, it is usually faster than a Qualcomm MSM7200 and Snapdragon
  • It does not have an integrated GPU so it is usually paired with a PowerVR GPU.

Phones using the Cortex A8:

  • Motorola Droid (600mhz OMAP 3430)
  • Motorola Milestone (600mhz OMAP 3430)
  • Samsung Galaxy S (1ghz OMAP)
  • Motorola Droid X (1ghz OMAP 3630)
  • Motorola Droid 2 (1ghz OMAP 3620)
