Does libgdx have the option to use non-bitmap fonts? One font created using the TTFgenerator takes 5 megabytes of RAM. Also, the generation procedure itself requires a lot of resources.

In short, no. You either generate a bitmap font using a program such as hiero ahead of time or use FreeType to generate one on the fly.
