Captain forever remake

I am trying to create a game similar to "captain forever" http://www.captainforever.com/captainforever.php ,However, I am struggling to implement joining two bodies together when they collide. Has anyone managed something similar before?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have seen that page but I’m having trouble implementing it. How would I be able to snap the blocks so they are aligned with each other and are able to be both combined and broken apart etc just like in the game?

You won't found a solution that work out of the box. I would manually align the bodies and use a joint to keep them together.

Hi, thanks again, yeah I’m aware that that is unfortunately the case. My main issue is determining the closest side to join. My idea is to have a list of connection points for each body and make the joints there. I so far am able to drag together and join bodies but aligning them so these connection points correspond to each other is proving difficult. This is probably a primarily mathematical issue.

Hi, I have been experimenting greatly with solutions to this problem and have found that ultimately my main issue is with the weld joint. I am able to determine the exact positions where the weld should be put on each body, I am able to determine when the bodies should be welded, but when I add a weld joint the bodies do not become attached in the way that I would like. Has anyone got any experience with weld joints and whether they are worth pursuing? Thanks.
